Thiruvananthapuram: In a bid to tighten the noose over autorickshaw drivers displaying indecent behaviour, the traffic police has launched a special drive ahead of Onam. Around 50 auto drivers were booked in the city on Thursday and Friday. The actions were taken based on complaints and checks by plainclothed police officers.

“Overcharging, indecent behaviour towards passengers, lack of city permits and documents were being verified. There will be an inflow and outflow of people from city during Onam. We do not want first time visitors in the city to be subjected to overcharging. Hence the drive,” said Traffic Circle Inspector (South) Anil Kumar T.

Meanwhile, the city police claimed that the change in colour code to yellow has helped weed out auto rickshaws from the outskirts illegally operating in the city. “We were yet to find an auto from the outskirts illegally changing colour to yellow and operating here,” officials added.    The drive will continue for another day.
