Warangal: A micro sculptor from Warangal has earned two entries in the Limca Book of Records — one for the smallest functional violin in the world and another for the smallest pair of scissors — both made of gold.

Mr Mattewada Ajay Kumar, 45, carved a steel-strung violin measuring 20 mm using 0.740 mg of gold over 12 hours, while the 11 mm pair of scissors was carved using 0.180 mg of gold in three hours.

A goldsmith by profession, Mr Kumar started carving faces of famous personalities into rice grains at a fairly early age. Thereafter, over the past 29 years, he has created a number of microscopic wonders out of gold and wax. In fact, this is not the first time that his works have ended up in the Limca Book of Records.

He has been recognised previously as well — thrice, in fact — for his seven-levered lock, a fan, and his miniature lock.

Of his other works, his wax depiction of the Dandi March in the eye of a needle earned him nationwide publicity.

It was awarded a permanent place inside the National Salt Satyagraha Memorial at Dandi in Gujarat.
