Visakhapatnam: The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has pressed into service municipal workers in day and night shifts, started an awareness campaign (Swachh Diwali Pledge), and partnered with stakeholders, like NGOs and resident welfare associations to curb pollution during Diwali.

The GVMC is giving top priority to the plans under its ambitious Eco-Vizag campaign and following guidelines of Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0.
The municipality's ‘Swachh Diwali - Shubh Diwali’ campaign addresses each pollution - air, noise, solids and water - separately, which are caused by the festival of lights.

Meanwhile, the ministry of housing and urban affairs (MoHUA) is reaching out to the masses through its anti-pollution awareness drive on social media handles called ‘Swachh Diwali Signature Campaign’ To take the GVMC’s Swachh Diwali oath, one can visit the website: https://pledge.mygov.in/swachh-diwali-shubh-diwali/.

It has further conducted meetings with stakeholders like NGOs, resident welfare associations, sanitation secretaries, supervisors, inspectors and volunteers to ensure this year’s Diwali is a zero-waste festival.
