Hyderabad: The division bench of Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice C.V. Bhasker Reddy on Thursday dismissed a PIL seeking the disposal of unclaimed bodies from the Gandhi Hospital mortuary.

The bench was dealing with a PIL filed by Abhinava Colony Residents’ Association, which contended that decaying bodies were causing environmental hazards and pollution. The petitioner complained that both residents and commuters were facing difficulties. The government pleader, appearing for the hospital, submitted a report detailing steps taken by the authorities to curb the same.

The bench, observing that — despite limited financial resources and structures at Gandhi Medical College — it had taken all the necessary steps in disposing of the dead bodies in collaboration with GHMC, disposed of the PIL.
