Bengaluru: A police head constable has been accused of allegedly assaulting a man for no reason except that he was watching two others engaged in a heated argument in Vyalikaval on Friday night.

The head constable, Muniswamy, attached to the Vyalikaval police station, had reached the spot near Dattatreya temple after he was alerted about a scuffle on milk sales after the bandh ended.

A resident, Kumar, who had come to buy curds at the milk parlour, was watching two people quarrel around 9.45 pm. When the cops tried to disperse the crowd, Kumar kept standing at the spot.

While the other cops broke up the fight, Muniswamy hit Kumar on the leg. Kumar’s family members, including his wife – who is a flower seller nearby, protested sitting before the Hoysala patrol vehicle.

Senior police officers, including the ACP and inspector, rushed to the spot and consoled the family.

Both Kumar and Muniyappa were counseled by senior police officers. No complaint was registered.
