Organ donation saves three lives in Vijayawada

Vijayawada: Organ donation by 23-year-old youth at Manipal Hospitals in Vijayawada gave a new lease of life to three patients.

Vallupu Sriramulu accidentally fell while doing centring work and sustained a severe head injury. Locals and family members took him to the Manipal Hospital Vijayawada by ambulance.

After assessing Sriramulu's health condition, doctors performed craniotomy surgery. However, the patient’s condition did not improve despite a series of treatments. Sriramulu was declared brain dead following which family members agreed for organ donation under the Jeevandan rules.

The liver and one kidney were transplanted to patients at Manipal Hospital Vijayawada. The other kidney was shifted to Vedanta Hospital, Guntur, for transplantation.
