Inter girl found dead at Gurukula college hostel

KURNOOL: An Intermediate first-year girl student of the Gurukula social welfare college was found dead on the steps of the hostel dormitory in Veldurthi mandal headquarters town late on Saturday night.

The deceased was N. Pushpalatha (16), a native of Dhurgapeta of Bethamcherla mandal. District collector G. Veera Pandian ordered a magisterial inquiry into the death.

According to police, she reached the hostel from her native village on Monday when the college hostel reopened. She was found in a lifeless state by hostel students who immediately informed the hostel authority and the police. She was rushed to Kurnool Government General Hospital at night and the doctors confirmed her death.

On Sunday, the collector along with district SP K. Fakeerappa visited the hospital and also the college hostel and made preliminary enquiries. The collector later ordered a magisterial inquiry. A special committee with Atmakur DSP Y. Shruthi has been formed to probe the matter.

The collector and the SP met parents of the girl and consoled them. The collector said arrests will be made once the culprits are identified.
