Thiruvananthapuram: The state government has updated guidelines for procurement of ICT equipment in schools and educational offices using public funds.

The Government Order, issued on recommendations of the technical committee of the general education department, details the maximum price and minimum specifications and after sales service conditions. 

Laptops, multimedia projectors, projector screen, 3 KVA UPS, whiteboard, USB speaker and projector mounting kit are specified in the updated GO.

Laptops replace desktops for their portability, power backup and energy consumption advantages. The supplier should ensure a five-year comprehensive warranty and explain their functionality to the headmaster and IT coordinator.

Details such as installation date, warranty period, and contact details of the service centre and representatives have to be labelled.

In addition to the above, the supplier has to make available to schools the call centre number and web portal for registering the complaints. 

The department is buying 60,250 laptops and 43,750 projectors. Any digital content or digital library has to be verified and approved by SCERT before deploying. 

Schools and educational offices can also directly place the supply order to KELTRON, the government rate contract agency.

Schools and offices can buy unlisted equipment adhering to the Store Purchase Rules, and the unit price should not exceed Rs 15,000, and the total project cost Rs 50,000.
