Nizamabad: Gulf migrant worker Ileni Srinivas Reddy of Bathikepally in Pegadapally mandal of Jagtial district went missing in Iraq from October 3, the day he was supposed to leave for home. His phone has remained switched off.

Srinivas Reddy had gone to Iraq in 2018 for a job. He recently began suffering health issues and decided to return home. Before that, he tried to recover some money that he had lent his friends. A few of them reportedly refused to repay and attacked him. Srinivas Reddy reportedly kept his wife Sujatha updated on the goings-on.

Sources said he had booked his flight ticket to India on October 3 and was to reach home on October 5.  When there was no contact with him, Sujatha called up his friends in Iraq but could not get any information.

The victim’s family members approached Congress MLC T. Jeevan Reddy and TPCC NRI cell convener Chand Pasha for help. Pasha sent an e-mail to the external affairs ministry and the Telangana NRI cell, seeking help to trace Srinivas Reddy. Whatever information Sujatha could pick up was forwarded to the NRI cell and the MEA.

“It is not known whether Srinivas Reddy has been jailed suddenly or is ill,” Chand Pasha told Deccan Chronicle on Tuesday.
