Two-day national seminar on Lepakshi Temple

TIRUPATI: A national seminar will be organised at Lepakshi on December 14 and December 15 to emphasise on inclusion of the iconic Lepakshi Veerabhadra Swamy Temple in the list of UNESCO World Heritage sites in recognition of its architecture, sculptures and mural paintings.

Speaking to media persons on Friday, noted historian and seminar organiser MyNaa Swamy said about 300 people, including the country's tourism experts, historians, tourism journalists, tourism writers, archaeological researchers and students will take part in the seminar.

He requested interested participants, including students, researchers and scholars in fields of arts, archaeology, history and tourism, to mail their research papers, whether in Telugu, Kannada or English, to tourismnews2007@yahoo.co.in. They can contact 9502659119 for more details.

The theme of the seminar is “Need for permanent UNESCO recognition of Lepakshi Veerabhadralayam.” MyNaa Swamy said topics to be covered at the two-day meet include tourist destinations in Andhra Pradesh, development of temples built in territories of Vijayanagara Empire including Lepakshi Veerabhadralayam, beauty of oil paintings in Lepakshi, and development of historical and fort tourism circuits.

The seminar organiser said proceedings will include a special session on "Tourism Writers and Tourism Journalists" on December 14 afternoon. It will highlight to the world sculptures, mural paintings, inscriptions, architectural style of the Vijayanagara dynasty and splendour of temples during the Vijayanagara period.

Certificates of appreciation will be given to the participants, MyNaa Swamy added.
