HYDERABAD: People who frequent Sanjeevaiah Park have reason to cheer. In a few days, they will be able to utilise the newly-installed outdoor gym equipment, which includes a pull chair, an air walker, an arm-wheel, an elliptical, a rowing machine, a waist trainer and a leg press. Fitness enthusiasts will be able to complete head-to-toe fitness workouts with this equipment.

The outdoor gym has been set up by Funfit, a Hyderabad-based fitness equipment manufacturing firm, free-of-cost at the request of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA). The metropolitan body offered them an open space in Sanjeevaiah Park and pitched in with the civil works for the installation of the equipment.

Officials of Buddha Purnima Project Authority of the HMDA say that the firm offered to install the same equipment at NTR Gardens, but their offer was turned down because it is a recreational park, unlike Sanjeevaiah Park, which is frequented by daily walkers.

Between 600 and 800 walkers come to Sanjeevaiah Park between 5.30 am and 9 am every day, and they will be able to use the workout equipment for free. Persons will be charged '5 for entry into the park, and regular visitors can get a monthly pass for '75.

Mallam Madhukar, the MD  of Funfit, says that they have installed equipment worth nearly '5 lakh in the park for public benefit. He says that trainers will be available for the first few weeks to guide people and teach them how to use the equipment.

“We have sought an appointment with Minister K.T. Rama Rao for the inauguration of the facility in the next few days,” Mr Madhukar says. The Telangana government is keen to replicate this model at other parks in the twin-cities.
