Hyderabad: Residents of Gandi Maisamma, under Dundigal police limits, held a protest demanding immediate the widening of a narrow road, which they said had led to 18 fatal accidents and 10 were left disabled. They said their complaints on the matter have been ignored.

Pagadala Ramesh, told Deccan Chronicle “My wife was killed in an accident on that narrow road six months back.”.

Rajeswari, who lost her leg in an accident, said, “I used to be so independent but now I have to rely on others to perform even simple tasks. I wish someone had listened to our pleas,” she said

“I can't play with my children anymore. My life is confined to this wheelchair. We're not asking for any special treatment but only to ensure the safety of everyone in the neighbourhood. Our scars are not just physical, they're emotional too. Every time I see those roads sends a painful reminder of what I've lost,” said another victim.

Dundigal inspector Y. Rama Krishna confirmed six deaths in the area this year, and acknowledged the urgency of the matter. He vowed to collaborate with the relevant authorities to see to it that the road widening project is taken up on a priority basis.
