Cusat's ship-in-campus to be opened to public for 3 days

KOCHI: As part of an international seminar, the 'ship-in-campus' lab of Kunjali Marakkar School of Marine Engineering will be opened to public on August 9, 10 and 11. The School is organising the seminar themed 'Metamorphosis of Maritime Innovations' and the techno-cultural Fest Propulzo 2k17. The ship-In-campus lab is a hi-tech lab and the entire machinery and equipment of a ship including propeller, steering machinery and rudder are taken out and installed inside a concrete hull as per the instructions of DG Shipping, under the guidance of a senior consultant from IIT, Kharagpur.

The training given inside this lab enables the students to get a hands-on experience of the actual working of the engine room machinery and equipment of a ship. The programme will be formally inaugurated at 3:30 pm on Thursday at the seminar hall of the school at a function presided over by VC Dr. J. Letha. The chief guest Sanjay Chandra, executive director, M/s Fleet Management Ltd, Hong Kong, will inaugurate the seminar. Capt. Josekutty Thomas FNI, president, The Nautical Institute, India South West, will formally inaugurate the techno-cultural fest.

Dr. S. David Peter, Registrar, CUSAT, Dr. K.A. Simon, Director, KMSME will speak. The keynote lectures on emission control, situation awareness, polar code and IGF code by eminent academicians will be held as part of International seminar. Competitions in fashion show with a prize money of Rs 50,000, music band (Rs 35,000) and solo dance performance (Rs 40,000) will be organized as part of fest, said Prof. N.G. Nair, the course in charge.
