TIRUPATI: Smoke in Chennai-Delhi Rajdhani Express triggered panic among passengers at Kavali in Nellore district on Sunday. Passengers panicked when they noticed the smoke near the wheels of the B-5 compartment.

The loco pilot detected the smoke and brought the train to a halt at Kavali Railway station, averting a potential disaster.

The train was stopped for 20 minutes at Kavali Railway station. The railway staff was alerted and the snag was rectified shortly. It was found that there was a brake binding and the smoke was due to friction of the brake block. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The train had been authorised to resume its journey when the repair was done.

“When the train was near Kavali, it suffered brake binding and smoke had emanated due to friction of the brake block in the coach. The problem was, however, sorted out and the train left for Chennai,” an official of the Government Railway Police said.
