Section 144 promulgated at Amaravati

 Vijayawada: Following allegations and counter allegations between the ruling YSR Congress MLA Namburu Sankara Rao from Pedakurapadu Assembly segment and Opposition Telugu Desam former MLA Kommalapati Sridhar to prove charges of graft, Section 144 has been promulgated at Amaravati in Palnadu district from 9 pm on Saturday till 5 pm on Sunday for maintenance of law and order.

According to Amaravati police, Sridhar and his supporters alleged that sand in huge quantum from Krishna river was being mined illegally at the behest of local MLA Sankara Rao. Sridhar challenged Sankara Rao to come for debate in the temple at Amaravati on Sunday morning.

In counter reaction, Sankara Rao challenged the TD ex-MLA to prove his allegations.

At this backdrop, tense situation mounted at Amaravati with leaders and supporters from both the YSR Congress and the TD were getting ready.

DSP Adinarayana announced that Section 144 had been promulgated in the town and advised the leaders and activists from all the political parties not to attend any debate at any place on Sunday. He cautioned them that if anyone intended to cause breach to the maintenance of law and order and disturb civic live, they would deal with them sternly.
