Anantapur: With the ICC World Cup cricket matches starting, police in the Rayalaseema region have increased their vigil on cricket betting.

Proddatur, Guntakal and Anantapur are among major centres in Rayalaseema that run online betting.

Kadapa SP Siddharth Kaushal has on Sunday issued a stringent warning to 36 bookies from Proddatur town, who have a history of online cricket betting. Area tahsildar bounded over these bookies, with a stringent warning not to involve in cricket betting activities during the ongoing World Cup Cricket tourney.

““We will not spare anybody involved in cricket betting activities in Proddatur and other parts,” Siddarth Kowsal stated. He said innocent people suffer, incurring huge losses because of betting.

Meanwhile, police teams have raided 68 lodges and betting centres in Kadapa headquarters alone, along with 35 places in Proddatur, 10 in Mydukur, five in Jammalamadugu and 12 in Pulivendula, as part of their operations against cricket betting.

Similarly, Anantapur police led by SP K.K.N. Anburajan conducted cordon and search operations within the limits of 42 police stations.

One Town inspector Reddappa told DC, “We are focussing on lodges and dhabas to check cricket betting.”
