Kakinada: Rajamahendravaram municipal commissioner K. Dinesh Kumar said permanent measures will be taken to curb inundation problems in the city. He was speaking after inspecting de-siltation works at Deluxe centre and Innespeta on Thursday.

The commissioner said many areas of the old city get inundated whenever there are heavy rains. He underlined that to overcome the problem, new drains will be constructed at a cost of ₹50 crores. He pointed out that canal works are already being carried out at a cost of ₹7 crore along Shirdi Sai Marg.

Dinesh Kumar pointed out that some of the shops and establishments have obstructed the drainage canals while building ramps to their shops. Silt has thus accumulated in the drains.

Superintendent engineer G. Panduranga Rao, municipal health officer A. Vinuthna, executive engineer Seshagiri Rao and deputy executive engineer Prakasa Rao were present.
