Jagan to launch e-autos under Bin-free, Litter-free and Garbage-free AP' initiative

VIJAYAWADA: With a vision to make all cities in Andhra Pradesh to become “Bin-free, Litter-free and Garbage-free”, Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy would inaugurate e-autos for ‘segregated garbage collection’ under the Clean Andhra Pradesh programme on June 8.

The key objectives are 100  per cent segregation of waste at source and door-to-door collection with community participation, 100  per cent scientific treatment of the waste generated, community participation and ownership of the reforms, visual cleanliness of the cities and good public health standards.

With the aim of women empowerment, the Chief Minister is giving priority to women as e-auto drivers.

Jagan Mohan Reddy would flag off the distribution of e-autos at an event at the CM’s Camp Office in Tadepalli on Thursday.

Officials said the distribution of 516 e-autos to 36 municipalities, at a cost of Rs 21.18 crore and with a capacity of  500 kg, is planned. Each costs Rs 4.10 lakh.

As part of the Jagananna Swachha Sankalp, so far, 120 lakh bins with colour coding (red, blue, green) for segregation of wet, dry and hazardous waste were distributed to 40 lakh households across 123 municipalities. This was done with an expenditure of Rs 72 crore.

Some 2,525 petrol/diesel/CNG garbage tippers for garbage collection in Grade-1 and above municipalities have also been arranged.

Officials said the Waste to Energy projects have already been started in Guntur and Visakhapatnam. A similar project is to be set up in Rajamahendravaram soon, with a capacity of 400 TPD.

The Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy-led government is establishing 135 garbage transfer stations (GTS) in 81 municipalities at a cost of Rs 156.61 crore.

There are 71 integrated solid waste management projects, 29 waste-to-compost projects and 4 bio-methanol projects for managing wet waste in AP. The government is constructing 206 sewerage treatment plants at a cost of Rs 1,445 crore in 66 municipalities that have less than a 1-lakh population.

The faecal sludge treatment plants (FSTP) in 55 municipalities with a less than 1 lakh population is also planned to be introduced.
