Coimbatore: Conservancy worker dies as garbage bin falls on him

The worker died on the spot after the bin fell on him while he was adjusting it on a hydraulic lift.

Coimbatore: A 29-year old conservancy worker was killed today in a freak mishap when a garbage bin fell on him from a lorry in the city.

Ramesh, a contract labourer, was adjusting the bin on a hydraulic lift, when it suddenly fell on him, resulting in his death on the spot, police said.

The driver of the lorry was taken into custody for interrogation, they said.

A group of conservancy workers gathered at the spot and demanded that the family of the deceased be paid Rs.15 lakh as solatium besides a permanent job to a family member, they said.
