Vijayawada: Heeralal Samariya who was sworn in as the chief information commissioner by the President Droupadi Murmu at a programme held in New Delhi on Monday, is closely associated with both AP and TS as he held key positions in several departments.

Born on September 14, 1960 in a hill village of Bharatpur district in Rajasthan and did his BE Civil (Hons) from Rajasthan University. He is a 1985 batch IAS officer and served in several important positions in the Union government including as secretary in the ministry of labour and employment and also as joint secretary in the ministry of chemicals and fertilisers. He also served as the information commissioner from Nov. 7, 2020.

Earlier, he also served as the collector of Guntur and Karimnagar and also as a commissioner for commercial tax in Telangana and also as a commissioner for transport in AP.

Several senior IAS officers laud him for his administrative skills and also for his ability to deal with tough situations with ease.
