Bathukamma celebrated with gaiety

It was a riot of colours as women used flowers with vibrant hues for Bathukamma arrangement.

Saddula Bathukamma, which was celebrated with fervour, came to a conclusion in Vemulawada on Thursday. It is believed that during the Chalukya rule, Lord Shiva (Brihadeeswara) shifted from Vemulawada to Kanchi in Tamil Nadu in AD 1010. On knowing about this, women tried to console Goddess Parvathi for which they prepared flower arrangements in the fom of an inverted cone (similar to Shiva Linga). Bathukamma is played for nine days in entire Telangana.

Warangal: Woman employees from all the government departments joined the Bathukamma celebrations at the district collectorate here on Thursday. Traditional Bathukamma songs reverberated on the collectorate premises with the women dancing.

Deputy Speaker Padma Devender Reddy took part in the celebrations. ZP chairperson G. Padma, Karimnagar ZP chairperson Tula Uma, MLA Vinay Bhaskar’s wife, Revathi, finance minister Etela Rajender’s wife, Jamuna, former MP Gundu Sudharani and others also took part in the celebrations. There was festive mood at the GWMC office too. It was a riot of colours as women used flowers with vibrant hues for Bathukamma arrangement. They sang songs asking for more rains and good crops.

Corporators, N. Jhansi Laxmi, Leelavathi, Usha Sri, K. Kavitha, ACP Shailaja, supervisor Prasanna Rani and others were present.
