HYDERABAD: Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samiti brought up the issue of potholes on the Ganesh idol immersion route at a meeting with city police here on Thursday, ahead of the festival which starts on September 18

The Samiti also sought illumination to be made at specific places, vehicles and tuskers to mandapam organisers, and water and food arrangements at midnight on the day of immersion.

City police commissioner C.V. Anand, speaking at the meeting, emphasized streamlining the coordination, and exchange of information among the three police commissionerates and urged representatives of the community to comply with the court orders issued in connection with idol immersion.

He recalled that mandal organisers had registered over 15,000 idols that were taller than 10 feet and appealed to the samiti members to fill out the intimation forms and make use of the online registration facility for the purpose.

GHMC chief Ronald Rose said road repair works, illumination, and tree pruning works were being done and apprised the meeting about the setting up of baby ponds and excavation ponds for the immersion of idols.

Coordination booklets with contact numbers of all department officers would be shared across all stakeholders, he informed.

Police Commissioner M. Stephen Raveendra of Cyberabad and D.S. Chauhan of Rachakonda urged the organisers to cooperate with the police. Electricity department officials briefed the meeting on transformers being installed and shock-proof measures being taken in areas that would see a large number of people gathering.

Transport department officials assured that they would provide tuskers and heavy vehicles to carry the idols. “ We have started the requisition for vehicles and they will be pooled at multiple points,” said Joint Commissioner Panduranga Naik.

The meeting discussed the positioning of ambulances and the fire brigade, deployment of cranes, barricading, running additional Metro and MMTS services, and mobile toilets, among others.
