ANANTAPUR:  If your car has many pending E-challans, there are chances that toll plazas may not permit your vehicle to proceed further unless all dues are cleared through fastag. Such an arrangement is set for implementation by connecting pending e-challans and details of the vehicle with toll plazas.

Normally, police issue challans, and depend on CCTV footage to generate e-challans against violators.

It is difficult to collect challan amounts on highways as vehicles just zip away at high speeds. Police personnel and road transport authorities during a joint survey identified dangerous curves leading to accidents. Despite using speed guns on highway roads, they failed to control the speed limit of vehicles. Police could impose fines only during routine raids and surprise visits.

While it is difficult to capture all speeding violations on mobile phones, in many cases such violators go scot-free because of their political ‘connections’ or because they are in the good books of officials.

Given these obstacles, which are affecting revenue generation, authorities are to link toll plazas with details of vehicles.  Collection of outstanding e-challans and toll charges through the bank account-linked Fastag is seen as the most viable option. Presently about 10 agencies are maintaining toll plazas. The toll plazas’ getting connectivity with state police will help in recovering the pending challan amounts, observed KM Shakil Shafi, an analyst.
