THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Muslim League has decided to hold protests across the state on February 11 against the inhuman treatment meted out to its former national president E. Ahmed at the RML Hospital in New Delhi after he collapsed in   Parliament on Wednesday  last. The  League working committee which met here on Monday did not decide on its candidate for the by-election in the Malappuram Lok Sabha constituency which was represented by E. Ahmed.

A section of Muslim League leaders is  keen to field Mr P.K. Kunhalikutty while another  prefers Muslim Youth League president Munavvar Ali Shihab Thangal, 39, it is learnt. The League leaders attended the UDF convention against the anti-people policies of the LDF and the BJP governments. State president Panakkad Sayed Hyderali Shihab Thangal told reporters that the party will decide the candidate after the election notification.

The leaders said that the central government and the RML hospital had tried to suppress the news of Ahmed’s passing away to enable the presentation of the  union budget.  The League will highlight the ‘fascism on death bed’ being practised by the BJP government during the protest in the state. Mr  Kunhalikutty condemned the deterioration in the cultural values of the BJP-led government.  The meeting also thanked Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi for their timely help at the RML hospital
