Medak Excise officers detain two for transporting liquor illegally

Hyderabad: The Prohibition and Excise Enforcement of Medak Division on Sunday detained two persons for smuggling liquor from Goa and seized liquor bottles worth Rs 1 lakh.

K Raghuram, Assistant Commissioner of Prohibition and Excise Enforcement, Medak Division, said that on a tip off, they conducted a vehicle check at Kamkole Toll Plaza and found a vehicle in which two persons were travelling and indulged in transporting Goa liquor to Telangana illegally.

The Excise officials said that they seized 70 Liquor bottles of Various brands of Goa State, Kadamba Travels of Goa State (GA 03.X.0478). The Excise officials also detained two persons Ulhas Shridhar, 52, and Abasaheb V Rane, 51, both residents of Goa.

"Both the drivers confessed that they were aware that liquor rates are much lower than the liquor rates of Telangana State and they encourage the illegal transportation of liquor so as to improve the booking of passengers by Kadamba Transport Buses. Abetting the illegal transportation of Non Duty paid liquor is an offence under Excise laws of T S State," Raghuram said.

The Prohibition and Excise Department had earlier served notices to all transport buses operators from Goa and Hyderabad, informing them not to transport liquor from Goa to the State of Telangana.
