Eluru SP asks students to shun suicidal thoughts

VIJAYAWADA: Nuzvid police on Tuesday organised a special programme “Jayaho Yuvatha” at RGUKT (Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies) campus advising students to treat developing events with positive attitude.

Interacting with students at the programme, Eluru district superintendent of police Rahul Dev Sharma said: “Life is not a bed of roses. You need to be positive whatever happens in your day-to-day life. Have good relations with your classmates. Never hide your sorrows. Suicides are not a solution to problems,” he emphasised.

Dr. Parthasarathi Rao, psychiatrist from National Mental Health Programme, pointed out that depression is the 4th biggest cause for disability worldwide. Women are affected twice as often as men. One third of the population in India is affected by anxiety disorder. The doctor asked students to be wary of moodiness, eating disorders and sleep disturbances.

RGUKT-Nuzvid director, Prof. G.V.R. Srinivasa Rao, said every student has a unique talent on which s/he must harvest. They must focus on being strong and determined. “A fragile mind could lead one into sorrow and depression,” he warned.

Nuzvid DSP B. Sreenivasulu motivated students by showing students lifestyles of great state, national and international leaders. He administered a pledge to students on remaining positive.
