KOZHIKODE: The CPI has issued a ‘Cyber code of conduct’ to its ministers, personal staff, legislative members and other leaders  as those close to the centres of power are more prone to cyber crimes and cyber traps laid by hostile elements with vested interests. The party had conducted a workshop on the pitfalls of cyber world early this year and organised a series of discussions as part of strengthening the IT cell. The five-hour workshop was led by prominent cyber experts like Dr Vinod  Bhattathir-ippad.

CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran told this newspaper that the directions were formulated after discussions with experts and also after consultation with the national-level IT cell of the party. “There are many slippery areas in cyber crimes about which many of us are not well-informed,” he added.   The instructions include neglecting suspicious internet calls, recognising domestic calls and international calls, precautions to be taken while dealing with fake e-mails and lessons on safe practices in social networking sites like Facebook and WhatsApp.

“When you take a phone or answer a mail, it becomes a valid document,” said Mr Kanam Rajendran. “So in this cyber era we should be extremely cautious,” he added. Meanwhile, the BJP state unit organised a state-level workshop on cyber forensic  investigation for the IT cell members of the state in Kozhikode on Friday. BJP state president Kummnam Rajasekharan was among the audience who attended the programme till the end. The programme was conducted as part of empowering the ‘IT cell’ members of the state ahead of the BJP national council meet which is scheduled to be held in Kozhikode early next year.
