Babu Jagjivan Ram Jayanti celebrated

Tirupati: The 116th birth anniversary of former deputy prime minister and freedom fighter Babu Jagjivan Ram got celebrated on a grand note in various parts of Tirupati, Chittoor, Nellore and Prakasam districts on Wednesday.

Public and private organisations, including government offices, political parties, universities, hospitals and social organisations, paid tributes to Babuji.

At an official function, Dy. Chief Minister K. Narayana Swamy, tourism minister R.K. Roja and Tirupati district collector Venkata Ramana Reddy garlanded the statue of former deputy prime minister at the Babu Jagjivan Ram Park here.

Chittoor district collector Hari Narayanan, MP N. Reddeppa and others garlanded the statue of the Jagjivan Ram near Gangineni Cheruvu in Chittoor city.

TTD’s Welfare Department organised the 116th Jayanti of Babu Jagjivan Ram at the Mahati Auditorium in Tirupati. Osmania University faculty of law dean Prof. Gali Vinod Kumar said Jagjivan Ram fought against all social odds in his life. He performed all his responsibilities with ease during his 52 years of political career.

In Nellore, agriculture minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy garlanded the statue of Jagjivan Ram at the Vedayapalem Circle. Addressing the gathering, he said as a union agriculture minister Babu Jagjivan Ram had started the green revolution and increased agricultural yield.

In Prakasam district, Minister Adimulapu Suresh and district collector A.S. Dinesh Kumar garlanded Babuji’s statue on Ambedkar Bhavan Road.
