Hyderabad: The Secunderabad and Vijayawada railway stations are among a set of stations selected by the Railway ministry for re-development.

Railway minister Suresh Prabhu will launch the new project on February 8 from New Delhi. The project includes, among other improvements, the setting up of hotels, multiplexes and shopping malls in select stations.

The station re-development project is being taken up under the Swiss Challenge method, which involves inviting proposals online and permitting bidders to compete among themselves.

The railway ministry plans redevelopment of 23 railway stations under the South Central Railway. The Secunderabad and Vijayawada stations are included in the first phase.
