Chennai: Governor Ch. Vidyasagar Rao greeted the teachers across the country on the eve of Teachers’ day (birthday of former President Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.)
Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan stands for emulation and is highly regarded by every Indian and especially those in teaching fraternity. His vision of Indian Education was in line with the world standards. “Let us show our gratitude and respect to our teachers for making us what we are today,” Mr Rao said in his message here on Sunday.
Further, he appealed to the teaching fraternity to reorient themselves and evolve new methodologies for laying a strong foundation in students to make India a global leader.
Extending her greetings, Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa said her government has launched several measures to ensure even the poor children get quality education and the welfare of teachers are looked after.
“Various measures implemented by my government for the welfare of teachers include filling up 74,316 vacancies, setting up of two teachers’ homes at Tiruchy and Chennai at a cost of '6 crore, special grievance redressal meetings for them, besides ensuring transparent counselling on their transfers,” she added.
She had also directed the enhancement of the cash award given to the best teachers from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000, Ms Jayalalithaa said. Union minister of state for road transport highways and shipping, Pon Radhakrishnan extended his greetings on behalf of BJP.
DMK chief M. Karunanidhi, MDMK chief Vaiko, PMK founder S. Ramadoss, Kongunadau Makkal Desiya Katchi E.R. Eswaran also extended their greetings on the occasion.
