Thiruvananthapuram: The underwater search by teams of Navy and Air Force to trace missing Latvian tourist Liga Skromane continued for the third consecutive day without any success.

An official release here said that since the search operations were being carried out close to the coast, the underwater area is quite muddy.  Divers are using divator sets for search alongwith manual search and search equipment like sonar. In addition to these operations, in low water they are also conducting searches under rocks. So far nothing has been found in the operations. The navy and air force plan to windup the search operations by Thursday afternoon. The southern naval command had pressed into service Gemini inflatable boats, under-water sonar and 6 deep sea divers for the search operations in and around Kovalam area.  The divers started the search operation with sonar near Grove Beach and Light House area. The search on Tuesday was carried out in areas near the Grove and Samudra beach.

On Wednesday naval team searched Sea Rock and Light house beach areas.

The team plans to carry out search operations in Light House and Masjid areas during Thursday forenoon.

The state had sought the services of Navy and Air Force for underwater search two weeks after Skromane went missing from Kovalam. At the request of the government, Air Force transport aircraft AN-32 from Sulur Airforce Station reached Kochi and transported naval assets from Kochi Naval Command to Thiruvannathapuram.
