Chennai: The State Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR & CE) department would be handing over 10 lakh biscuit packets to the Travancore Devaswom Board on Sunday for distribution to the Ayappa devotees visiting the Sabarimala shrine in Kerala on their annual pilgrimage.

State HR&CE Minister P K Sekar Babu flagged off the arrangements for the transportation of the biscuit packets to Kerala by containers on Friday at the premises of the Arulmigu Kailasanathar temple in Vanagaram in Chennai.

Already the department had donated 6 lakh biscuit packets for distribution to the pilgrims at Sabarimala, where they wait in the queue for long hours to offer worship to Lord Ayappa, Sekar Babu said.

He said Kerala government was making all arrangements during the 18 hours a day for the 75,000 pilgrims thronging the hill shrine with the facility to let in only 3500 devotees to offer worship in one hour.
