Kochi: In the light of the incident in which several students of a government higher secondary school in Ambalamugal complained of suffocation and were admitted to hospital the other day, district collector Muhammed Y. Safirulla has ordered corrective steps for BPCL Kochi Refinery.

The company has been asked to take steps to prevent direct emission of hudrocarbon substance into air when plants restart after shutdown. The gases should be passed through scrubber, he directed. The collector issued the directions after Factories and Boilers Department submitted a report in this regard. The functioning of Kochi Refineries’ CDU3 plant has to be altered.
