Music lovers relish soulful tunes in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: Neither the summer heat nor the holiday could stop classical music lovers to get into the cool environs of the Ravindra Bharathi on a Sunday morning to witness the melodious musical concert organised by the Sangeetanjali Foundation’s musical jugalbandi by a team of renowned musicians.

The concert began with an emotional outburst of humour, pathos, love and anger that was communicated by three artistes on the violin, the tabla and the sitar.

The first composition performed by Miya Todi on Alaap Jodh and Jaala which was a creation of the legendary Miya Tansen and the second Shudh Sarang Vilambit and Drut that concluded with the third Raag Mala in Raag Bhairavi.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, violin wizard Pandit Indradeep Ghosh said, “I am the only classical violinist in India of the Maihar Gharana to play a unique, custom made five-string violin and viola with eight sympathetic strings, modelled after the Norwegian Hardanger fiddle which gives a fuller tone and resonating effect.”

Sitar virtuoso Pandit Abhishek Mallick said, “For me, the sitar is a world in itself, a world of not just strings, but of transcending heights and unfathomable depths.

Exploring this realm of infinity is something that I have made the mission of my life under the strict tutelage of my guru Pandit Shyama Chattopadhyay and I have given my first public performance at the age of eight”.

The event was held in aid of the Autism Ashram supported by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations.
