Kollam: Three killed as buses collide, eight critically injured

A total of 40 passengers, mostly women, were injured in the accident.

KOLLAM: Three people, two of them women, were killed, and many others gravely injured in a major bus accident near Ayoor on Friday night. The accident took place at around 7 pm when a private bus lost control and rammed into a KSRTC superfast bus at Kambankode along the MC Road near Ayoor. Remya, 27, of Kottikkal house at Kuruppampadi in Ernakulam was identified dead while the identity of the others is yet to be ascertained. The superfast bus was going to Angamally from Infosys in Thiruvananthapuram while the private bus ‘Janatha’ was heading to Attingal when the accident took place.

The private bus was believed to be going at a high speed while negotiating a sharp right turn when it hit the KSRTC bus and completely damaging it. A total of 40 passengers, mostly women, were injured in the accident. The condition of eight passengers is said to be critical. The injured were admitted to hospitals including Thiruvananthapuram MCH, Gokulam Medical College Venjaramoodu, Kottarakkara Taluk Hospital, and Anchal Mission Hospital.
