KANNUR: The Progressive Homeopaths Forum that took samples from the tribal colonies in Peravoor in Kannur has found more than 70 percent of them suffering from anaemia suspected from malnutrition. They say there should be more support from the society as well as the government and awareness about the health conditions. The medical camp was conducted on August 27, and health cards were distributed, depicting their basic health features including pressure, haemoglobin level and BMI, said Dr Ratheesh Kumar V., one of the coordinators of ‘Wings of Care’, the charity arm of the forum.

“Blood tests were conducted for the 210 inmates of the three colonies in Peravoor panchayat - Edappara, Parangott and Kalakkudumb. Paniya tribals are living here, and they are in dire need of attention. We had invited all the more than 400 inmates, and only 210 turned up for the camp. Cholesterol and other check-ups were given to all aged above 50,” he said.

The forum, on Saturday, distributed dresses for all the inmates of the colonies in the presence of K.K. Ragesh MP and CPM state committee member V. Sivadasan.  A grand Onasadya was also served for them to mingle with the tribals and understand their issues.  The MP also distributed carrom boards to the youngsters to be used at their leisure.
