TS yet to install mandated safety measures on national highways: Centre
Minister said that only Gujarat, AP, UP, Jammu & Kashmir and Arunachal Pradesh had confirmed that they were implementing the provisions
HYDERABAD: Telangana is among the states that are yet to implement the Motor Vehicle Act notification issued in August 2021 to ensure appropriate electronic enforcement devices on national highways, especially high-risk and high-density corridors.
In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, Union highways minister Nitin Gadkari said that as per Section 136 A of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, state governments shall ensure electronic monitoring and enforcement of road safety on national highways as per the rules laid down by the Union government. The Union highways ministry had issued GSR notification 575(E) dated August 11, 2021, for the purpose.
He said that only Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Arunachal Pradesh had confirmed that they were implementing the provisions.
The setting up of Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) is envisaged in high-traffic density corridors which may help in speedy identification of incidents on the highway stretches and thereby help improve response time of on-site assistance, he added.
