Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh government plans to set up an exclusive police station for farmers in every district to resolve their issues. This apart, a farmer help desk will be set up in every police station.

Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy stated this while holding a review meet with the home minister Mekathoti Sucharitha, Chief Secretary Adityanath Das and senior officials at his camp office here on Tuesday. The police station for farmers will help them to not get cheated during the sale of their produce and get justice, the CM said.

He said the help desks for farmers will be on the lines of the Disha help desk.
The CM laid stress on the need for both Rythu Bharosa Kendras and the police to work hand-in-hand and come to the rescue of farmers in case they find any trouble in sale of farm produce.

Jagan Mohan Reddy directed the officials to work on a plan to provide protection to farmers even in relation to legal issues and fight against fraudulent practices in sale or purchase of agricultural produce.

Earlier, reviewing the implementation of Disha Act, 2019, the CM asked officials to ensure filing of charge sheet within a week’s time against those involved in offences against women and children and set up special courts to hear cases booked under the provisions of Disha Act, 2019. There is also a need to set up women help desk in all police stations, the CM said.

He directed the officials to give publicity for the Disha app. “Set up hoardings at Disha police stations, colleges, village/ward secretariats and at other public places, listing the details of the several provisions in the Disha Act, 2019. Bring about awareness on the app among Asha and anganwadi workers in villages,” he said.

The CM enquired about the response from the police for SOS (distress) calls received from Disha. Officials said, on an average cops, were able to reach the spot within six minutes.

He asked the officials to set up cyber kiosks meant to ensure security to the mobile phones at educational institutions as also with railway and bus stations. “Name them too as Disha,” he said.

The officials informed the CM that crime rate against women has come down by 7.5 per cent in 2020 compared to 2019, following implementation of the Disha Act, 2019 and the special provisions to provide protection to women. While 471 cases were registered, seven charge sheets were filed, officials said.

“Overall, in 1,080 cases, charge sheets were filed in 15 days; and in 103 cases, the criminals were convicted,” they said. The officials informed the CM that Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the services of the patrolling vehicle meant for Disha cases. States like Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh started initiatives similar to Disha in their respective places, the officials told the CM.
