Vijayawada: Social Welfare Minister Meruga Nagarjuna has accused Telugu Desam chief Chandrababu Naidu of being anti-poor and anti-backward communities.

“Naidu is afraid of defeat from YSR Congress in the coming elections,” he said while addressing the media here on Wednesday.

He asked Naidu and other TD leaders, “If our party candidates are changed, what pain are you experiencing? The chief minister as YSRC president is taking decisions on our party candidates for the upcoming elections. Changes of candidates are an internal matter of our party. Such electoral strategies are a common practice in politics.”

Minister Nagarjuna claimed that TD would disappear in AP after the 2024 elections despite its alliance with the Jana Sena. Naidu is worried about TD, his future, and his son Nara Lokesh's future.

He alleged that BJP state president Daggubati Purandeswari turned her party into the B team of TD. “She is working for the turmeric (TD) party, instead of strengthening the saffron party."

Refuting Purandeswari’s allegations of increased attacks on Dalits under the Jagan Mohan Reddy government, minister Nagarjuna said this was a baseless charge. The highest number of attacks registered against the Dalits in AP was during the TD government’s term. The Karamchedu massacre happened during the TD rule, he said.
