Karimnagar: Ramagundam police apprehended two members of the proscribed CPI-Maoist organisation and seized '1.57,900 in cash, two mobile phones, six memory cards, one tablet, two pen drives and some documents from their possession at Indaram village of Jaipur mandal under the Ramagundam police commissionerate on Saturday.

Speaking to the media, police commissioner Rema Rajeshwari said that the arrested were identified as Donga Gangadhara Rao, 80, alias Narsanna alias Bakkanna alias Vengo Dada and his wife Bhavani, 60, alias Sujatha alias Shyamala alias Lami, natives of Narendrapuram village in Gannavaram mandal of Ambedkar Kona Seema district of Andhra Pradesh.

Gangadhara Rao, who studied Polytechnic in Vizag, had been working as a central committee member in the technical department for the Maoist party since 1980 and involved in the making of weapons and explosives since 2000 for the organization.

At the behest of central committee member Chandranna, the Maoist couple came to Indaram village ten months back to strengthen the party network in the urban areas and extort money for carrying out anti-government activities.

Using fake Aadhaar and PAN cards, the couple purchased land at Indaram and constructed a small house. Occasionally they used to visit Sironcha village which is present on the borders of Maharashtra to attend party meetings.

The CP said a manhunt was launched to nab absconding Maoist sympathiser Chippakurthi Srinivas who was helping the couple.

A case was registered against the arrested couple and the investigation was under way.
