Kerala University Vice-Chancellor steps in to rectify appointment anomalies

The VC's intervention came following complaints that reservation was being sabotaged.

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala University Vice-Chancellor P.K. Radhakrishnan has intervened to rectify the anomalies in the appointment of teaching staff in the university departments. Of the total  105 posts, 57  are in the reserved category. The VC's intervention came following complaints that reservation was being sabotaged. The UDF  government had issued an ordinance in 2013  for ensuring reservation in teacher appointments in six universities of the state following complaints that such norms were  not being followed.

Applications were invited for the posts of assistant professor, associate professor and professor by the university on November 27. The posts of assistant professor in the teaching departments of the universities have a pay scale of  Rs. 15,600-39,100. The candidates should have at least 55 percent marks at the masters degree level in the relevant subject from an Indian university or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university and should have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the UGC, CSIR or similar tests accredited by the UGC like SLET or SET.

A relaxation of five percent marks will be provided at the graduate and masters level for the scheduled caste,  tribe and differently-abled  and other backward classes  (non-creamy layer) categories. For the post of associate professor in the scale of pay of Rs. 37,400-67, 000,  a candidate should have a minimum of eight years'  experience of teaching or research in an academic of assistant professor in a university or college excluding the period of  Ph.D research with a minimum of  five publications as books or research or policy papers. An eminent scholar with Ph.D qualification in the relevant discipline with a minimum of 10 publications as books or research and policy papers with a minimum of ten years of teaching experience in university or college, including experience of guiding candidates for research at doctoral level, can apply for the post of professor.
