Kin of cracker godown explosion victims in Tirupati get ₹5 lakh each

TIRUPATI: District collector K. Venkata Ramana Reddy and MLA Kiliveti Sanjeevaiah handed over ₹5 lakhs each from Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to families of the three who died in an explosion at a crackers’ godown in Kuvvakolli of Varadaiahpalem mandal in Tirupati district.

The collector and the MLA handed over the cheques to the families of S. Nagendra (31) of Kuvvakolli, Sankaraiah (50) of Ellakattava, and T. Edukondalu (45) of Gudur. They also assured additional support and assistance in educating their children.

They assured that stringent action will be taken against the management responsible for the incident.

Labour department officials say the cracker company owner has been informed that compensation will have to be paid to the bereaved families in accordance with the Workmen's Compensation Act.

The police department has also initiated proceedings against the cracker godown owner.
