Foreign couple stuns Ragam delegates
Joaquin Caride & Uruguayan Irene Carrier enthrall crowd
KOZHIKODE: Seeing a foreign couple dancing Hula Hoop (ring dance in colloquial), an aerobatic dance form, was a pleasant treat for the hundreds of delegates, who attended Ragam- the annual cultural fest- at the National Institute of Technology on Friday.
It was Clap Clap Circo, a circus theatre company formed by Joaquin Caride (Clown Juggler) from Argentina and Irene Carrier (actress and circus performer) from Uruguay, who performed for the students here.
The couple stunned the delegates with their eye- catching dance moves and ring performance swirling around more than 20 rings at a time and juggled. The couple, who started working together since 2008, have performed for many countries, including Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Italy, Switzerland, Germany and Poland.
“It was for the first time the NIT-C brought circus artists here who mesmerized the crowd with their new moves, elegance and balance, thereby giving a new experience for the delegates,” said Sanju Sandeep, one of the organizers of Ragam fest. In addition to this performance, students also got the chance to attend Salsa dance workshop.
The day one of the fest also witnessed the performance of Malayalam playback singer Sachin Warrier who led an interaction session with the delegates sharing his experience working with Malayalam and other state film industries. The livewire, three-piece garage rock band performance of SKRAT from Chennai was yet another attraction.
