HYDERABAD: Hyderabad is gearing up to host the country’s first ever Formula E Championship while racing enthusiasts are waiting for the dawn of February 11 when the vicinity around Hussainsagar will come alive to fast cars.

Meanwhile, eight cars that will participate in the two-day event landed at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) at Shamshabad in the early hours of Thursday.

The same track hosted India Racing league (IRL), which was a dress rehearsal for the extravaganza on February 11. The IRL, held two months back, also served as a lesson for the organisers, who, since noticing the shortcomings, have set right all loopholes.

Meanwhile, arrangements at NTR Marg are progressing at a brisk pace while there have been periodical inspections of the 2.5 km race-track, especially with regard to their safety and durability as befitting the international event. Many barricades are coming up as a precautionary measure.

According to RGIA officials from the cargo division, around 90 tonnes of race car components have also come along with the racing cars by a chartered cargo aircraft from Riyadh.
