Hyderabad: A week after the traffic police imposed curbs on vehicular movement on Road Number 45 in Jubilee Hills, traffic chaos reigned, with the restrictions causing roadblocks on Road No 36 and affecting pedestrian movement.

On November 24, the traffic police announced traffic diversions for a week on a trial basis in order to ease traffic movement on Road No. 45, which is heavily used by techies and BPO employees travelling to the IT corridor.

As a result, the traffic police directed the motorists heading to the Durgam Cheruvu Cable Bridge from Jubilee Hills Checkpost to proceed straight along Road No. 36, thereby increasing the burden on this stretch.

Road No. 36 now appears to be congested from all directions. Traffic heading from KBR Junction to Road No. 45 has been diverted to Road No. 36. Traffic heading from Yousufguda and the surrounding areas to the Road 45 junction via the Jubilee Hills checkpost is also diverted to Road 36.

While Road 36, which has a number of shopping centres on both sides, is already congested with heavy traffic from morning to night, the additional traffic diverted from other routes has added to the burden.

Although the traffic police claim that movement on this stretch is steady and continuous, it has become extremely slow.

According to a worker at a jewellery store on Road No. 36, the increased vehicular traffic is causing a lot of disruption and confusion among his regular customers.

The diversions also added to the burden on Road No. 44, one of the bylanes. However, it has eliminated traffic on Roads No. 56, 59, 60, and 67. Roads No. 60 and 67, which bordered Road No. 45, were closed with barricades.

Further, the roads adjacent to Road No. 36 were partially closed, causing inconvenience to motorists.

Meanwhile, city police commissioner C.V. Anand inspected the trial run arrangements on Thursday, accompanied by senior traffic officials, and directed field personnel to pay closer attention to the bylanes adjacent to Roads No. 45 and 36 to ensure they are also free of traffic congestion. He also spoke with the personnel in charge of the diversion points and solicited feedback from them.
