THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Governor P. Sathasivam has not been invited to the 60th anniversary function, ‘Vajra Keralam’, organised by the government at the Legislative Complex on November 1. Giving a clear hint of his displeasure, the Governor will be leaving for a five-day visit to Chennai on Kerala Formation Day. “Propriety demands that the nominal head of the state should at least be informed about the event,” a top source close to the governor said. Vajrakeralam is jointly organised by the state government and the Assembly.

The day-long event, which will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, will be attended by former chief ministers, ministers and former speakers. People from all walks of life, like Rev Philippose Mar Chrysostum and P.T. Usha, will also be present. “If the government has taken care to invite important people, the non-invite to the Governor cannot be seen as mere oversight. It could have been done on purpose,” the source said.

The Governor’s Office said that his Chennai visit was decided only on Saturday after it was clear that he would be kept out of the Kerala Day functions. “If you require the presence of the Governor, the department concerned should inform the Governor’s office well in advance,” the Governor’s office said.
