SDSC exhibitions in India to mark World Space Week

NELLORE: Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC), Sriharikota, will celebrate World Space Week in India at eight venues spread across AP, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Odisha from October 4, 2022.

Word Space Week is celebrated worldwide from October 4 to October 10 every year to educate international community about use of space technology for humankind.

October 4 signifies the launch of first artificial satellite – Sputnik-1 – on this day in 1957. October 10 coincides with signing of treaty on this day in 1967 on principles governing exploration and peaceful uses of outer space, including the moon and other celestial bodies.

The World Space Week Association has chosen this year the theme “Space and Sustainability”, focusing on achieving sustainability in space.

Students can utilise the opportunity to witness Sounding Rocket launches planned on October 10, 2022 at Sriharikota.

Apart from space exhibitions for public, SDSC will organise competitions like written quiz, drawing, design challenge, extempore speech and so on at all the venues of the exhibitions.

During the week, there will also be Walk for Space Week, lectures and interactions with senior ISRO scientists / personalities, apart from video displays. In addition, online competitions will also be organised for the benefits of students.

Sriharikota: 4th October 2022 – Inaugural function at MRK Auditorium, Sriharikota
SHAR and Sullurpet: 4th October to 10th October – Exhibitions at various places in Tirupati district – Sriharikota, Tiruchanur, Rangampeta and Sricity
Vizianagaram: 6th October to 8th October – Satya Institute of Technology and Management Studies (SITAMS)
Guntur: 7th October to 9th October – Chalapathi Institute of Engineering and Technology (CIET)
Puttaparthi: 5th October to 7th October – Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning
Vellore: 7th October to 9th October – Vellore Institute of Technology
Chennai: 7th October to 9th October – Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science
Karaikal, Puducherry: 7th October to 9th October – Karaikal Sports Stadium
Cuttack: 10th October – Ravenshaw University
