Mysuru: Royal Dasara celebrations end with Yaduveer's Vijaya Yathre'

Mysuru: While the city celebrated the “people’s Dasara,” the royal family of Mysuru fulfilled its traditions for the festival with its young scion, Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, going on a symbolic “Vijaya Yathre” in a silver chariot in the palace grounds on Saturday to mark the end of the festivities.
Dressed in his royal robes, and wearing a turban and antique jewellery, Mr Yaduveer first enjoyed the customary Vajramushti Kalaga at the Savar Thotti in the palace ground before going on his “Vijaya Yathre” in his silver chariot to the temple of goddess Bhuvaneswari in the palace grounds where he offered a pooja.
He was accompanied by Dasara elephants, Vikakrama and Gopi, palace elephants, a horse and camels. Crowds had gathered at the palace to watch this annual ritual taking them back to the times when Mysuru had a maharaja.
Later, the idol of goddes Chamudeswari, which was moved from the Chamundi Thotti to the Kannadi Thotti on the first day of the Dasara was reinstalled at the Chamundi Thotti bringing to a conclusion the Dasara rituals of the royal family, which were held to the tunes of the nagavaswara and the palace band all through.
Yaduveer's mother Pramoda Devi Wadiyar, monitored the rituals in the presence of his wife Trishika Devi.
