Self-financing medical admission: Fasting MLAs tired, but firm

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With the government remaining adamant on the fees issue of self-financing medical colleges, there is no end in sight for the indefinite hunger strike being undertaken by three Opposition MLAs in front of the Assembly hall since Wednesday. As the strike entered the third day on Friday , the three MLAs, Shafi Parambil and Hibi Eden (Congress) and Anoop Jacob (Kerala Congress (J) parliamentary party leader) were looking tired.
A medical team attached to the legislative complex is monitoring the health of the three who are given saline water to drink. “The health of the MLAs was not much affected till this afternoon,” a member of the medical team said. Since there is no sitting of the Assembly on Saturday and Sunday, there were reports that the stir may be withdrawn by Friday or shifted to the secretariat gate.
However, the UDF parliamentary party that met on Friday did not want any relaxation in the stir. On Friday also, an array of political leaders cutting across party lines visited the MLAs. They included Administrative Reforms Committee chairman V.S. Achuthanandan, local party leaders from distant places and family members of the three.
