Coimbatore: The district police have launched a search for a fake woman doctor and her son following the death of a pregnant woman whom they treated at

Negamam-Mettuvavi close to Pollachi recently. According to police, Selvaraj, a daily wage labourer lives with his four sons and a daughter.

His wife Vanitha Mani recently came to know that she was five months pregnant. She planned to abort the fetus and approached a woman Ayurveda doctor Muthulaxmi at Vadachithoor. The latter, along with her 26-year-old son Karthick who is pursuing Ayurveda studies,  injected Vanitha Mani with some medicine. Within a few minutes, her condition deteriorated and they rushed her to Pollachi government hospital, but she died on the way.

On receiving the information from neighbours, Negamam police lodged a complaint. Before they could start investigation, Ms Muthulaxmi and her son went absconding. Police have launched a search for the duo.

A police source said that Muthulaxmi was already identified as fake doctor and action was taken against her a year ago. Without opening her clinic, she continued to treat people, and recently re-opened her clinic. Police suspect the duo to be making attempts to get anticipatory bail in the Madras High Court.
